    Doggies!

I had an old gazebo that I was going to take down, but we're also trying to figure out something to do with the dog. Home Depot handsome wiring on sale for $60 so I turn the Gazebo into a dog pen.

The thing about where I live, it can go from winter to summer in a day and this time of year, back to winter again, we really don't get a "spring" as such... Any whooo... it is to be 26C today so the pupper and I went for an early morning walk in the "back 40" behind my property, she loves going back there, I bring a ball and keep throwing it, she just runs and runs.

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking is maybe a bad bone so I put it in the green bin, I will look at the label next time to see where it is from. I don't get raw hide bones, but get raw hide "chips" from the Bulk Barn and she will snarf it down in an hour, at her age she needs to chew so want to give her a variety, a tennis ball is done in 20 minutes... She seems to be better, no gas, and I took her on an hour walk in the fields, she was running and playing, but has not had a dump since this mornings accident, I want to seeing what it looks like before she has free rain of the house.

Ya, the poor pupper, I have to keep her in her crate until it passes, the carpet in the living room, the dining room and my son's room, have taken multiple direct hits... Thank goodness I have a carpet cleaner... I used to buy the real bones for my old dog and never had a problem. When I gave Angie this bone, I put it on a towel as I could see there was still some meat and stuff on it and I did not want the carpet to get stained, as I said, she chewed happily on it for about 2 hours and then she did a relatively small vomit so I took it away, then a few hours later the diarrhea started... Maybe she is too young? 15 weeks Maybe the addition of cat litter to her diet? Maybe because we are transitioning her food ( the breeder gave us a big bag of food and I would buy it, but you can only buy it online, I bought a bag of high quality food from PetSmart, meat first ingredient, no by products) I have been slowly decreasing the old food and increasing the new one over 2 weeks... Maybe all of the above??? She had her shots and fully dewormed when we got her, we took her to our own vet and has had two more deworming pills and her stool sample came back fine. I know she is not feeling well, she will protest if in the crate too long, but she is just been sleeping all day, not a peep from her and she keeps passing gas ... She is scheduled to see the vet on Saturday for more shots and flea/tick treatment, so maybe the vet can give some insight... But here is a pic of her enjoying it...

Yesterday I thought it was a great idea to buy the pupper a real bone from the pet store, I came home and gave it to her. She was happier than a clam, at first she was barking at it, then batting at it, then dug right into it, she chewed on that thing for like 2 hours, not moving an inch. Well... bad idea, starting last night and right into this morning, explosive diarrhea all over the place...

My pupper, now 14 weeks, with legs/feet way too big for her body, has finally learned how to get up the flight of stairs. I was in the bedroom putting laundry away thinking that one of the kids had their eye on the dog; NOPE! I come out of the bedroom to see Angie lying on the floor in the hall way, happy crunching down on kitty litter "treats" Cat *** and litter smeared all over the floor and her face... The cat litter is NOT a snack buffet!!! We used to have this problem with our first dog 20 years ago, needed to move the pan...

Training is going very well, over the past week, I have got her to sit and then stay, then ON COMMAND! So not only when she feels like it, but if she is going crazy and jumping around, pulling on her leash, wanting to chase a squirrel etc. I firmly say, "Sit" and she does, even when it's feeding time. Today we had a breakthrough, I have been trying "Shake a paw" and it was not cluing in, she has to sit, then stay, then shake, but she wanted the treat after stay and I taking her paw in my hand, but today she did it! Three times so far so looks like it will "stick"; not bad for a 14 week old pupper... Good thing my son wanted a dog, maybe I should charge him for obedience training...

I will post more, she is getting so big already, she is going to be about 22 - 28 kg (50 - 60 lbs), I have to post a pic of her belly, she has short hair there and she has a paw print birth mark! Our animals are our kids too, this is my second dog, not that we have two dogs, I mean I had a dog 25 years ago, but we have had a barrage of cats my whole life. Animals are my soft spot, they love you unconditionally; hence the reason I have been a vegetarian for most of my life.

LOL, my son is really into classic rock right now and wanted to call her a "Rock" name. I had told him when I was a teen, I had a kitten that I called Geddy Lee, and in my 20's, I called my Dog, Webster, after the Canadian band, Max Webster (the lead singer was Kim Mitchell, was not a huge fan of Kim Mitchell on his own, but loved Max Webster) Going off topic, but here is Max Webster and Geddy Lee, classic rock at it's best... Point being... Angie was named after the Stones song. Ya, she is a great dog, good disposition, getting along with the cats, and seems to be a big o'l goofball... We are all have a lot of fun with her, she has a ton of energy, I forgot how much work a puppy is, she is just like a toddler, we had to puppy proof the house because everything goes in the mouth... and she chews everything!!! She reminds me a of my daughter, we had a lot of problems with my daughter when she was a toddler, she too chewed everything, besides biting people, she would actually chew on like tables and chairs. We took her to the doctor to ask what to do, and get this... The doctor told us to get Milk Bones for her, we did and it worked! LOL!!! We would give my daughter a Milk Bone and she would gnaw on them for hours... I am teasing my daughter now, asking her, "You are the expert, what biscuits should we get for Angie? What was your favourite flavour?"

My son has really wanted to get a puppy for a while now, he said he would not only look after it, but he would pay for it and all paraphernalia (crate, food, toys, vet) with everything going on at home, l said okay (he is almost 17, works and could pay for it and he is a responsible kid). We have been searching for the right breed, temperament and such. He decided on a Labradoodle, I was phoning around different breeders and letting him talk to them. We found a good breeder not too far away, they are Mennonites (there are a lot of Mennonites where I live and I know they are good people and would have treated the animals right, AKA not a puppy mill) They had a lot of Labradoodles, but he fell in love with an "oops", the father is a pure poodle, but the mom is an Australian shepherd/ Golden Retriever mix, so we are calling her, a Mutoodle... Any whooo... my son ended up paying about 2/3 of the price and I picked up the rest. She is 11 weeks old, great pupper, she has only had a few accidents, but I know from dogs I have had in the past, we will get over that... So, I present you with Angie!

I really don't know the old time members that still drop by, there were a few that were excellent at mining for old threads. I can recall that someone posted a spreadsheet with all the upgrades and costs, from age 1 right up. It might be in one of the sticky threads, or on the AoE Wiki. Any other oldtimers remember where this sheet is? @Wicked Wulf
